Tamy Abernathy, Department of Education

Jody UrquhartTamy has worked for the Department of Education since 2013.  In September 2020, she was promoted to a Management and Program Analyst for the Policy Coordination Group (PCG)  in the Office of Postsecondary Education. Prior to coming to the PCG, she worked as a Program Specialist in the Policy, Liaison and Implementation team in Federal Student Aid.  While she works with many aspects of student aid in her role at FSA, she is a subject matter expert on the federal loan Campus-Based programs. 

She has 30 plus years of experience working in the federal student aid industry. She began her career working at a Private College in Tennessee in 1986 as a work study student and was hired to work in the Financial Aid Office full-time upon graduation in 1990. After moving to South Carolina in 1996, she began working at the South Carolina Student Loan Corporation.  She also worked at the University of South Carolina and later worked for one of the largest national Federal Student Loan Guaranty Agencies, TG, until leaving to join the Department. 

She holds Master of Science in Management from Southern Wesleyan University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Lee College.

 

Martha Wilson, Manager, Payment Programs

Martha Wilson, TouchNet's manager, Payment Programs joined the team in 2014. Martha, who is Internal Security Assessor (ISA) and PCI Professional (PCIP) certified, focuses on security, compliance, and processing initiatives. In her role, Martha works with our Global, TSYS, Heartland, and industry partners to implement secure payment solutions. Through these collaborations, she advocates on behalf of our higher education merchants with regulating bodies for the payment industry, such as the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) and various card brands.
